Sheltered beaches from the Mistral in Sardinia

If you are on holiday in Sardinia, whether you are in Costa Smeralda, Olbia, Golfo Aranci or Budoni, when you feel the breeze of the Mistral, you will notice that relaxing on the beach can become a challenge!

The Mistral, this enterprising wind that comes from the northwest, is a regular guest in Sardinia. When it decides to blow on the island, you might find yourself shivering on the beach, chasing the umbrella or fighting a sandstorm.

Here's the good and the bad of holidays in Sardinia: on the one hand, the Mistral gives you super fresh days, on the other, it can add a bit of spice to your quiet beach day.

We at Maior Capital suggest you some sheltered beaches so as not to give up your appointment with the sea.

Sheltered beaches north of Olbia

The picturesque beach of Capriccioli is an excellent choice, offering shelter and three different exposures of its small beaches. Spiaggia Bianca, located near Golfo Aranci, is also quite protected.

Near Olbia, the beaches of Pittulongu, Mare Rocce and Cala Banana are notoriously sheltered from the wind. Other options include Liscia Ruja (especially Li Itricceddi and Petra Ruja), Romazzino and Spiaggia del Principe, although the protection offered can vary depending on the intensity of the wind.

Another beach to consider is that of Portisco. Also, near Baja Sardinia, the beaches of Ea Bianca and Cala Battistoni are highly recommended.

Protected beaches south of Olbia

South of Olbia, San Teodoro offers some fantastic options. One of these is Le Farfalle, better known as Cala Suaraccia. This beach is appreciated for its unique location that makes it a natural refuge when the wind blows.

Another popular choice is Punta Est. This beach is famous for its geographical conformation that offers a natural shelter from the wind, making it an ideal place to relax even on the windiest days.

Cala Brandinchi, often called 'Little Tahiti', is another gem. Not only is it one of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia, but its location makes it suitable for a day at the sea when the wind is strong.

Finally, there is Capo Coda Cavallo. This beach is protected by a granite promontory, which gives it its name and serves as a natural barrier against the wind.
